2016 | NBBJ | Tampa, Florida | Interview Proposal
In this up and coming area of downtown Tampa, University of South Florida is bringing together two of its premiere departments, Morsani College of Medicine & Heart Institute, into one new showcase building. This proposal attempts to bring the notion of a college campus to a single, vertical city block by rotating programs, amenities, and green space around a central “spine.”
The resultant form allows this series of terraces, or “quads,” to ascend up the building in a spiral fashion, creating a truly integrated building and a dramatically iconic presence for the user and its surroundings.
The project also was to pursue WELL certification, and was to be part of a WELL certified district. WELL is a rating system, somewhat similar to LEED, but which focuses specifically on occupant and use well-being and health. The project was the first for NBBJ Columbus, and one of the first for NBBJ to pursue this exciting new certification program, and the team was able to gain valuable insight into the WELL standard.
